NDD is program based political network established in March 2001 with the mission to provide the democracy movement with the requisite skills and capacities to achieve a return to democratic government and to lay the groundwork for the re-building of Burma's institutions and body politics to reflect the democratic ideal. Its programs are:

Community Development Program

Basic capacity building for grassroots members of NDD and other community based organization

1. Language Training (English and Thai)
2. Basic Computer Training
3. Office Management and Staff skills Training
4. Accountant Training
5. Community Organizing Training
6. Self-reliance Income Generating Projects

People Empowerment Program

Conducting trainings, workshops, seminars and discussions for the members of NDD, other concerned groups as well as community leadership in the refugee camps on the issues below:

Research

1. Providing online weekly news commentary
2. Providing “Opinion & Analysis” on the current issues about Burma
3. Monitoring the political, economic and social developments in Burma and writing analysis/research papers on several issues as required
4. Providing data and information on Burma to organizations, research groups, NGOs, researchers, scholars and writers

Documentation Activities

1. Collecting news, information, data and publications on Burma
2. Maintaining and providing strategic estimate data for the movement
3. Publishing monthly Burma Chronology of events and Weekly Inside News Commentary

External Affairs

1. International lobbying
2. Initiating and participating local and international campaigns against the military junta in Burma
3. Cooperating with the Foreign Affair Committee of National Council of Union of Burma
Inland Network Program

Strengthening and expanding networks inside Burma

1. Providing nonviolence trainings and other basic capacity building trainings for the activists inside Burma
2. Operating special activities inside Burma
3. Establishing and strengthening independent civil institutions as the pillars of support for the democratic society

Information Collection Program

1. Collecting news and information from different sources
2. Disseminating these to opposition organizations including National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma (NCGUB), Burma Lawyers Council (BLC), Euro-Burma Office (EBO), etc
3. Providing news and information to the DRD
